Little Peepers, as you will recall, was the only survivor of a litter of 6 babies from Bling x Dumpling (born on 6/13...Friday the 13th). She was handraised by me from the time she was a week old and finally after passing many hurdles, she was given the all clear by the vet and went home with her new family. Peepers is one of those fighting souls that beat the odds and rise to any and all challenges. She never should have survived,,,she was so tiny and helpless, rejected by her mother at birth. Each day she made it we were surprised. I told the kids each day, dont get too attached, she is very very tiny and probably wont make it.
Well she did and I am happy to say she went home tonight weighing in at a healthy 258 grams as a true survivor. (Pictures to come)

This is Sara, Peepers (aka Sylyphy) new mom!!

Happy Labor Day Everyone! Its hard to believe that summer is over and its time for back to school. I have to admit I am looking forward to a little bit of peace and quiet when the kids and hubby head back to school/work.
Butterfly is doing an awesome job nursing both litters of Babies (hers and Blings) and the babies are adorable. Right now they look like some may be chocolate chip which is one of my favorite hedgie colors. Its still a bit early to tell for sure.
Clementine still has not given birth. Who knows..it could have been a false pregnancy or possibly the fetuses were reabsorbed. I will wait til at least 55 days to ensure that no babies are coming before I move her to the "retirement" cage.
Annabelle, Clementine and Liz will be living together in our retirement village to enjoy the twilight years in luxury
I have babies available for adoption the end of Sept so if you are interested get in an application asap....
Well Bling had a litter of 6 and promptly rejected them AGAIN. Now poor Butterfly is nursing her own litter and Bling's litter! That poor hedgie! Clementine still has not given birth. I dont know if its a failed pregnancy but it is starting to look that way. I was hoping to pull some of the babies from Butterfly and give them to Clem but that is not looking like it will happen. So far Butterfly is doing a great job and the babies are doing well.
Felicity's litter is now ready for deposit. They are ready to leave on 9/26. If you are interested, please fill out an application and email it to me asap. thanks
It has been an eventful day today. First off while I was cleaning cages I noticed that Annabelle's cotty girl had something going on with her eye. After closer examination, I noticed it was seriously damaged and looked as though it had been poked by a quill. A quick trip to the vet and 250.00 later, she is home resting nicely. The vet pushed her eye back into the socket and secured it with stitches. We will see next week how it healed and if there will be any lasting effects.
Peepers went with us too to the vet. She has a raging ear infection and had to be rechecked. The poor thing yelped out in pain when the vet was cleaning out her ear
It is getting better but still has a ways to go. She is on baytril ear drops and amox for another 7 days.
Butterfly gave birth today and we are still waiting on Clementine and Bling..anytime now.
In addition, I have uploaded pics of Felicity's babies..they are so cute. Check them out in the photo album.
I am taking on 2 new projects and am looking to my current and past customers for assistance. My first project will be to put together a book of photos and descriptions of common hedgehog ailments for owners to reference. My second project will be putting together an educational video for new hedgehog owners.
Would you like to help? If so I am looking for the following:
1) photos depicting an ailment encountered by your hedgehog, the symptoms, onset, how it was diagnosed and treated.
2) your opinions on the top 10 things that you would think would be helpful for new hedgehog owners to know about their pets.
Please email me at Piercespogs@hotmail.com
thanks
I was able to sex Felicity's litter today and it appears we have the following:

I havent posted in a while. Things have been very busy and very crazy with my family this past week including a bout of strep throat and a Jonas Bros concert! Anyways, we will be heading to Disney for about 5 days....Aug 18-23rd. During that time we will be incommunicato.
In case you need to reach me for an emergency issue (please only urgent calls) my cell is 781-921-3694. I am also going to ask a fellow breeder/friend of mine if I can give her phone number out as an emergency contact while I am away. I will update the site with this information before I leave.
I have been very busy working on a line of new snack foods for hedgies and sending out samples to various folks. So far the reviews have been positive and hopefully in September I will be carrying a full line of homemade organic hedgie treats..they will include
- bug brownies
-Pog Bites
-Pog Puffs
-Pog Chow
-Pog Peanut Butter Poppers
I will also be getting in a variety of new handmade hedgie bags of the traditonal style along wiht a new style for which the opening of the hedgie bag stands up and remains open. I will also have in a bunch of Hedgie Holders (I first sold them at hedgehog fest in May..they went like crazy) which allow those with tender hands to pick up hedgies with ease. So stay tuned for of this coming in September!!!
